Throughout the year the State Library organises a range of exciting events, most of them free.

Check the events calendar for what's on at the library.

From stimulating lectures and talks inspired by our exhibitions and collections to films and concerts - there is something to interest everyone.

All venues at the Library are wheelchair accessible.

Take 3 WA authors

Complementing the Write On! exhibition, listen to three very different WA authors, James Foley, Natasha Lester and Stephen Scourfield speak about their writing to give you a taste of our local talent. Flyer is here.

When: Wednesday 23 May, 6.00pm for wine and cheese, event runs from 6.30 - 7.30pm.

Paul Carter: Smoking monkeys...

Paul Carter has worked, gotten into trouble and been seriously reprimanded in places as far-flung as Tunisia, and as dangerous as Columbia.

He survived all this with his crew, some of the maddest, baddest and strangest people you could hope not to meet. Hear about his best selling books, and what he's working on now. Flyer is here.

Picnic at Hanging Rock   (1975, 114mins, PG)
In the summer of 1900, three girls ascend a mysterious rock in the middle of the Australian bush and disappear.
Based on the book by Joan Lindsay. Starring Helen Morse, Jacki Weaver, Anne-Louise Lambert. Director Peter Weir.

Man from Snowy River   (1982, 104mins, PG)
Loosely based on Banjo Paterson's poem about the recapture of a runaway colt this "kangaroo western" was enormously popular.
Starring Kirk Douglas, Jack Thompson, Tom Burlinson, and Sigrid Thornton. Director George Miller.

Thursday 16 August, 5.45pm
Cosi   (1996, 98mins, M)
Lewis takes a job in an asylum working with patients who are interested in the dramatic arts. He ends up working with the patients to organise a grand staging of Mozart's opera 'Cosi Fan Tutte'.
Starring Ben Mendelsohn, Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths and Barry Otto. Director Mark Joffe.

All films are screened at the State Library Theatre, 25 Francis Street, Perth. The screenings are free and bookings not required.
